Spirit was used as an inspiration and model for the artists and animators during the making of the 2002 DreamWorks animated film Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. In April 2002, after the completion of the film, DreamWorks relocated Spirit to Return to Freedom's Wild Horse Sanctuary, where he serves as a prominent ambassador of the Kiger Mustang breed. At his new home, Spirit spend his days exploring large pastures at the Sanctuary and enjoying new friends. We are delighted to create a new home for Spirit where he can continue to thrive and inspire our visitors to preserve the heritage of these magnificent animals. Jasper (aka The Sheriff). Photo by Susan Brandt.
Jasper was only a few months old when he was captured from his home range in Nevada's high desert. In 2000, the family who cared for him brought him to RTF due to his rambunctious behavior at the time. Now a mature burro and because of a condition with his short tendons, he has needed special heels added to his back hooves. He has become the honorary sheriff here and enjoys wandering about freely and visiting everyone!
